Yoga/Movement and Bodywork Services

As a licensed massage therapist, craniosacral therapist and certified Yoga Tune Up® teacher I offer two kinds of appointments;  private yoga/movement  instruction and manual bodywork therapy.  My personal yoga training integrates fundamental teachings from different movement disciplines such as Hatha Yoga, Pilates, Hanna Somatics and Feldenkrais.

Knowing that everybody is different, I draw from these disciplines and over 20 years of being both a teacher and a student to work with you and your individual needs and desires.

Yoga/Movement Services

I use tools from  Yoga Tune Up® and The Melt Method® therapy ball exercises to give clients work to do at home that enhances and prolongs the benefits of their instruction or bodywork time.

Yoga Tune Up® (YTU)

I program my private and group classes around the  Yoga Tune Up® model which is a movement practice rooted in yoga that draws on foundations from many movement disciplines. YTU® intentionally engages the body’s tissues  ( joints muscles and fascia) in a way that initiates self discovery and healing.

Within the YTU® practice we  “train” and we “treat” the body.  We train by practicing movements and corrective exercises rooted in yoga asana and kinesiology.  We “treat” the body by guiding students to perform self massage  with therapeutic tools like therapy balls and foam rollers.  A regular YTU® practice teaches you to build stability in your body from the inside out. Self exploration with movements and self massage empower practitioners to “map” or “embody”  their body’s  own internal landscape to help keep it balanced and functioning on a daily basis.   Within YTU® I am free  to incorporate principles of  yoga, pilates, Feldenkrais, weight lifting and other disciplines.  In short, the practice of YTU® is a highly variable practice that is sustainable for the life of the body.  It is strength building, invigorating and calming to the body and mind.  With regular practice a YTU® allows you to develop a personal oasis of self care methods  to soothe body and mind.

The Melt Method®

This is a simple movement based practice utilizing  focused breath work, specific body movements,  foam roller massage and therapy ball massage to train and empower students with tools that balance their nervous system and connective tissue system of the body.

I find that The Melt Method® works great as a supplement to prepare the body for deeper more focused bodywork or exercise. The Melt Method is also very gentle and complements healing of the body when someone is in the early stages of recovery from trauma.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue massage aids the body in relief from muscle tension and pain. Massage has been shown to have positive results in relieving anxiety, high blood pressure and mobility issues resulting from scar tissue.

During a deep tissue massage the client’s body is on a massage table and is fully draped by sheets and blankets. The client may choose to wear loose fitting attire if they desire for their treatment.

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) and
Somato Emotional Release (SER)

CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of the craniosacral system. This is a physiological body system comprised of the soft tissue membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.  The foundation of the CST approach is that we acknowledge the body as a intelligent  and capable of self healing.  A CST treatment seeks to establish health and balance in the body  by optimizing the internal soft tissue conditions for productive recovery.

SomatoEmotional Release (SER) is a therapeutic process that uses and expands on the principles of CranioSacral Therapy to help rid the mind and body of the residual effects of trauma stored in the body.  Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.  By complementing the body's natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction.  Loose fitting attire is recommended for a productive CST treatment.

Ohashiatsu

A method of healing where  the recipient enjoys a “moving massage” as the therapist engages their body with passive movements exploring joint range of motion, myofascial elasticity and meridian energetic flow.  Ohashiatsu technique allows for your joints, muscles and fascia to be moved and engaged in a therapeutic way to release restrictions and barriers within the body’s tissue.   It’s often compared to  meditation as its soothing quality is deeply calming to the brain and nervous system.   The method works within the body’s energetic meridian paradigm to achieve balance and homeostasis. An Ohashiatsu  session is performed on the floor with the recipient  fully clothed in loose fitting attire.

Holistic Myofascial Facial Treatment

A hand , arm neck chest face and scalp massage designed to encourage an  increase in circulation, drain excess fluids and encourage the body’s  production of elastin and collagen -  key underlying components of resilient healthy skin. This truly integrative treatment combines techniques from all of the modalities I have studied, craniosacral therapy, lymphatic drainage, myofacial release and energetic meridian balancing. Tension in the hands arms upper back and chest can cause tension and tightness in the facial muscles.  The head, face and neck region of the body is a rich region of the body with abundant avenues for therapeutically enhancing the parasympathetic nervous system of the body.  The parasympathetic nervous system is the literal “gear” our bodies go into for recovering, rest, healing and renewal.
